Age is NOT an Obstacle. TemplateMonster Customer Tells How to Build Sites at 65

At his 65, Peter D. Robinson not only provides consultations to small businesses but also creates sleek and trendy sites using HTML5 themes.

TemplateMonster: Tell us a few words about yourself. How many sites have you already launched? Was this your first experience of the site creation?

Peter D Robinson: I started building sites about ten years ago for a small business I worked for (I have a degree in CS). All my work was organic HTML/CSS.

TemplateMonster: How did you get to know about TemplateMonster?

Peter D Robinson: The first template I have used was by TemplateMonster. At first glance of the source, I thought I was over my head. However, after studying the file structure and with help from TemplateMonster tech team, I managed to put together a truly incredible site.

TemplateMonster: Tell us about your projects? What products/services do you provide? What is your audience?

Peter D Robinson: Today at age 65, I help small businesses get their products into world markets (I’m a consultant). I create business and marketing plan, I do photography, website design, and I develop customer-facing content.

With my experience and guidance, I have helped three companies grow their businesses and expand their markets. I also manage a small audio recording company, servicing Local High Schools. I record, mix and master their performances and get their music on iTunes, Google Play, and CD Baby.

TemplateMonster: What templates have you purchased? What were the key factors that influenced your decision-making?

Peter D Robinson: My first template was for the Kensington Cong. Church in Berlin CT – www.kensingtoncong.org. I maintain and update this site weekly.

My second template was for a start-up called Cool Breeze Bicycle (a work in progress).

TemplateMonster: What features of the chosen templates do you value the most? What should be changed/enhanced?

Peter D Robinson: The feature I love are the vast quantity of templates to choose from with outstanding look and feel (GUI). I also like the ability to easily move blocks of HTML automation code wherever I need it. Lastly, now that I am familiar with your syntax and code structure, working with your templates is very straight forward and I love the technical support – I get a reply typically within an hour.

My only comment is the lack of robust documentation. If I ran the zoo, I would build a searchable help file that is derived from a question asked by your clients.

TemplateMonster: What tools do you use to power up your site's back-end?

Peter D Robinson: I have found that Microsoft Expression Web 4 (as an editor) and Filezilla to FTP content to the website are all I need. I basically edit and push and look at the results in the target environment – the web.

TemplateMonster: How much time did it take you to create and make your site live? What aspect of the site's creation was the most time-consuming for you (customization of the theme, content editing/creation, etc.)?

Peter D Robinson: It takes me about 8 – 10 hours to get the site up and running. The most difficult and time-consuming part is getting all the graphics (images) to work across multiple platforms (i.e. PC, tablet and smartphone), and creating written content. That’s above and beyond the bring-up time.

TemplateMonster: What are your recommendations for other users who are just planning to launch their site?

Peter D Robinson: Just do it. If you run into a problem, reset the source back to its original state, and make small incremental changes until the issue appears. If you can’t figure out what’s going on, ask the technical team, they will walk you through it.
