5 Updates: How to use Photoshop CC 15.5

How to use Photoshop CC 15.5

MonsterPost explains 5 main updates in the latest Photoshop 15.5 version. In a nutshell, they are awesome.

Create anything you can imagine. Anywhere you are. This motto was never as true as it is right now, with the newest Photoshop CC (2015.5) that launched on June 20th.

At TemplateMonster, we already use it to create these beauties. Our design team has sent us a message: the new Photoshop is jampacked with features and boasts of a streamlined interface. MonsterPost explains how to use Photoshop CC (2015.5) and its five most important upgrades.

Face-Aware Liquify

Have you ever played The Sims? My favorite part of the game was the character creation screen. I've been spending hours clicking on my character's eye, nose, hair, changing everything a bit to achieve the perfect look.

Now you can do the same, only with the faces of your friends and family - the latest Photoshop version supports changing facial expressions in one click. All you need is to go to Filter — Liquify. Photoshop's face recognition tool will detect face parts automatically, so you can just click on what you would like to change and change it. You can easily stretch the corners of the eyes in one click or make a smile a bit brighter.

Plastic surgery was so much yesterday. These days, it’s easy to get a boob job if you know how to use Photoshop properly (but don’t tell anybody you’ve heard it from me).

Match Font

Times New Roman, Lato, Helvetica. Every designer keeps dozens, hundreds of font faces names in their head and knows what fits where. So does the Photoshop CC 15.5.

The new Photoshop recognizes which font is used on the image. Long story short, select any text on a picture, and Photoshop will show which font was used. Also, it can choose suitable or similar fonts and give you a list to those from.

What can I say? For all the designers, whose clients want them to "play around with fonts a bit," the good times have come.

Selection and Masking Space

From now on, the phrase "Photoshop level: God" will no longer be sarcastic because you can photoshop yourself into divinity, with a range of new selection and masking tools, and it’ll look natural. This tool is super precise.

Choose any selection tool and you'll see a Select and Mask button on the toolbar above. Press it and you’ll get a working space where you can quickly select the objects you need, correct the outline, etc.

Content-Aware Crop

Imagine you’ve taken a fantastic landscape shot, but the horizon was slightly curved. The whole picture looks off, so you decide to rotate it a bit. A few minutes in, and you’ve managed to make the horizon entirely flat. However, there are empty spaces in the corners. Because that’s how the rotation works, right? So you have to cut your image. After you do, the shot suddenly looks off again. That's annoying.

With the newest crop tool, it’s in the past. Photoshop CC 2015.5 can unobtrusively fill in the empty spaces in your image, automatically adding important visual content. It can fill in the gaps with grass, water or sky that is indistinguishable from the real thing. Tell you the truth? It’s jaw-dropping.

Library Management Optimization

If you’re using Adobe’s Creative Cloud working in a team, you’ll like this one. Photoshop CC 2015.5 streamlined library management, so you can now share read-only assets with anybody. This means that only "the chosen ones" will be able to use a pattern or a layer you share with them, but they won’t be able to edit it or delete it (if you choose so). It’s pretty convenient.

Other Improvements

The overall Photoshop experience is better now. The program was optimized, so now image opens a lot quicker and is saved in a few seconds. Some of the sections, like the Libraries panel, were reorganized with new icons and filtered search, so it becomes way more convenient to find and use what you’re looking for. And if you’re using Adobe Capture CC or Adobe Experience Design CC, you’re in luck, because the new Photoshop is now compatible with both of those apps.

Right, so these are five mind-blowing things about the new Photoshop CC 2015.5.

It does look like we’re living in the cyberpunk future with the ability to quickly change people’s expressions on photos and an algorithm intelligently filling up the blanks in our pictures, wouldn’t you say? If you know how to use Photoshop, it is still the best designer tool in business — and if you’re thinking about upgrading your version or finally start using it, now is the best time to do it.
