Do you like traveling? If so, what about a “special” trip around the world? We’d like to take you to all continents except for Antarctica. We have nothing against Antarctica, but this is the only continent where we could not find Magento sites and this post is actually to show you how popular Magento is all over the globe.
As you probably know Magento is a feature-rich eCommerce platform. It allows users to build secure web shops that are easy to manage. Magento is available in 3 editions: Community Edition (it’s available free of charge and it’s supported by the community), Enterprise Edition (it’s a premium version and it includes tools and services which are not available with the Community Edition (i.e. marketing and merchandising tools, site optimization services and of course technical support from the Magento team); this edition is mostly recommended for big stores) and Magento Go (with this edition you get hosting, technical support and some other services that are available with the Enterprise Edition, but at a more affordable price). In other words, Magento is offering solutions to businesses of all sizes and this explains why it is so widely used by web designers and online retailers all over the world.
Below you’ll find 50 sites running on Magento and these sites were “born” in different counties on different continents. We believe they’ll be of interest to anyone who is thinking about launching a Magento site.
North America
As you look through the websites created in US and Mexico you’ll see that they look professional and appealing. You’ll also notice a lot of white space, some colorful illustrations, large image backgrounds, etc. Most navigation bars are placed on the top of the page. Not all webmasters put product images on the home page, but all of them put promotional banners there. Whether you’re a fan flat design or skeuomorphic elements, whether you like square or rounded corners, you’ll find a design to your liking below.

What we like best about Magento sites built in Brazil, Argentina and Columbia is that they’re clean and stylish. There is no site without promotional banner(s). In most cases a navigation bar is on the top of the page. One site is using floral brushes, another is following the minimalist trend, but all sites look up to date and attractive.

Magento sites built in Australia and New Zealand are so diverse; some of them are clean, while others come with textures; some of them you need to scroll, while others have content above-the-fold; some of them use square corners, while other use rounded ones, and so on. If to speak about what they have in common, we should say most sites look trendy and stylish whether it’s a black-and-white or a bright website. Also, you’ll hardly find a website without a promotional banner in the most visible part of the page. Sometimes, a few banners are in rotation. Finally, whatever website you’re on, the navigation bar will be on the top.

It seems Europe is a perfect place for Magento as it was extremely easy for us to find Magento stores which were built in the UK, France, Italy and other European counties. And the variety of Europe-based Magento sites is amazing: rich textures, large image backgrounds, bright colors, hand drawn elements, lots of white space, etc. We believe you’ll enjoy the brightness and elegance of Magento sites that represent European companies. By the way, there are some beautiful examples of flat design here as well as some sites that follow the skeuomorphic trend.

What’s special about Magento sites built in Japan, Russia and other Asian countries? It’s that they are very bright. Also, most of them you’ll have to scroll. As for navigation bars, you can see them in different parts of the page: on the top, in the left or in the right sidebar. And of course, as Magento sites from other parts of the world, they have either one or many promotional banners. However, to our surprise, there is no any textured site on our list of Asia-based Magento sites.

Sorry, we can’t say much about Africa, as we could only find 3 web shops which were built with Magento there. Two of three sites that we’ve found look cluttered and hard to read because as soon as you enter them, you get a feeling that there is too much information, too much black and too many images. So you don’t know what to focus on. However, the third site looks quite nice and elegant. This gives us hope that all Africa-based Magento sites will be improved with time.

The idea of this article is not to name the best online shops powered by Magento (there are much more of them, trust us), but to show you that Magento is popular all over the world. We understand that there are hundreds, thousands Magento sites that could be mentioned here, so we welcome you to comment and let us know what other beautiful Magento shops you’ve seen.
