We talk a lot about how good the modern social media expansion is. Without any doubt, we adore this type of media for a reason and as the marketers we all understand how crucial they are for our projects, right?
I like to talk to the fellow entrepreneurs on different conferences and massive meet-ups. Of course, the majority of those who attend such events are all experienced enough to start an ad campaign or prepare the marketing strategy for the product. But I noticed that some of those who start their marketing journey right now are confused and are not utilizing the social media properly with the needed pace.
That is why I decided to compile this short, yet comprehensive article on how to start your very first Facebook campaign. I hope that everyone who reads this article will get a general knowledge of the ad campaigns and how to start them. Since this particular article is devoted to the Facebook marketing, prepare your Facebook accounts and get ready to gain some traffic for your website.
All the advertising activity takes place in the Business section of your Facebook account. Personally, I recommend you creating a separate account for your business activities, there is no need to mix your business with the personal stuff.
So in order to create your business account, you should go to the Facebook Business page and click on the ‘Create account’ button.
Enter your business name as a first step. It may be the name of your company or website.
Next step is entering your name and business e-mail. I recommend you using the separate business e-mail. I’ve seen so many people trying to use their regular personal e-mail address and it eventually turns into such a mess! Please, use a separate e-mail address for your business!
Once you are signed up, you’ll be redirected to your personal page, that’s where all the social media advertising magic happens.
I believe that it’s time to mention that Facebook is also the place where you can start the Instagram campaigns and, basically, the process is very similar for the Instagram ad campaigns, so listen closely.
Go to the Ads Manager and you’ll see the following list of marketing objectives. That’s where you have to let Facebook know what you’re planning to accomplish using their ad campaigns.
Facebook wants everyone to understand what these objectives mean, so the compiled a short explanation on their help page. The most popular objective is ‘Promote your page’.
Now you’ll be redirected to the page where you can customize your target audience you want to work with. The settings are very flexible and it makes targeting your ads on Facebook unbelievably convenient.
You can reach the people who already know about your brand or remove them from the list and try to reach those who are new for your business.
The custom audiences can be created using four options:
- Customer File
Facebook gives you a chance to import your Mailchimp or any other file with the list of e-mails you want to be considered as your target audience on Facebook. This is how you can reach everyone who has already notified you that they are interested in your brand enough to get the newsletters from you. That’s why reaching them on Facebook is a pretty smart idea if you want to notify your subscribers about new content or any other updates on your website.
- Website Traffic
This option will make it possible for you to create a custom audience by analyzing those who viewed your website or performed any specific actions on particular pages. In order for this option to work, you’ll have to include a piece of code onto your website. No worries, Facebook will guide you through this process step-by-step.
- App Activity
Basically, that’s the same thing that I described above, but this one works for the mobile apps.
- Engagement on Facebook
This option will help you customize your target audience based on the list of those who previously interacted with your brand on Facebook in some way.
Make sure your headline is a jab and your body text is a kick-ass right hook. You’ll have restrictions on how many characters to use, so think of it like writing a cool and catchy tweet. You have around 90 characters, so try to deliver the message without the unnecessary words.
Once you have entered all the necessary information, choose the platforms/devices you want your ad to be displayed on. The list is pretty obvious and includes smartphones, desktop computers and more particular places on their webpage. However, you may also see the Instagram listed there. That’s what I was talking about in the beginning of my article.
As you could’ve already understood, the ad campaign settings look completely the same for Facebook and Instagram, you just need to choose Instagram on the ‘Placements’ list if you want to be advertised there.
That’s it! Now all you need to do is finishing the order and give your first ad a blessing to sail away!
Social media marketing is one of the keys to a successful business. Yeah, it’s a big set of keys and this is only one of those, but if you are not giving it enough attention and investments you’re making a huge mistake and lose lots of traffic. Utilize social media correctly and build successful projects without a headache.
