WordPress 3.6 Oscar with Revisions Tool: The Time Machine is Back

It is that Jazz Friday again with great news for the WordPress users- the new WordPress 3.6 released finally. It is named Oscar after the Jazz pianist Oscar Peterson with multiple amazing features in mind.

However, the features are more than just a new theme and improved revisions. It comes with the changed theme of TWENTY THIRTEEN reflecting how you can use post formats differently to craft new content for your WordPress site.

What’s the change?

The world of content management has undergone a sea of change during its lifespan and especially with its new release. So, to experience the changes, discover some of its notable features that provide a modern-art inspired.

The improved User-Interface:

The revised UI allows for better comparison and visualization. It features a new slider that will allow you to scroll through changes to see line-by-line as what has been changed. It is screened with modified snippets from your post and then compared to previous versions so that you can check exactly what has been altered with each save. This revamped revision is intuitive and clean and make customization and workflow update smoother. Most importantly, you can see the differences between revisions at a glimpse and reinstate each of them with a single button click.

The enhanced time machine, audio and video support:

There is no need to upload files on YouTube or Vimeo, as with the latest native audio and video support, they can be used right on the page. Also you get the advantage of HTML5 based media player to add videos to any pages. Moreover, with the audio/video API you can get access to metadata such as ID3 tags and also the ability to choose HTML5 mark up for comment list and search forms.
The time machine operates just like an auto focus. It can simply be dialled on way to get the older version and another for the newer version. It makes things stress-free with no clicking, searching and loading other pages. With the auto save system people will no longer lose a post while they lose the internet connection or refresh the page. Not only this, the developers get better filters to see the working procedures of revisions in order to enable you to store different amount of history for different post types.

The revised tool for responsive theme:

This is something that is getting the most attention as it enables a smoother comparison screen. For instance Twenty Thirteen is a responsive theme that is quite different from the previous version as it was built as a mobile first version. Although they both are good for the mobile devices, however they have a different approach. In 3.6, Google fonts with Bitter for headlines and Source Sans for body text will be included for the first time. Additionally, Genericons, the open source icons are also included in the new update.

The new default theme - Twenty Thirteen:

Twenty Thirteen is inspired by modern art and focus on the content with a single column and colorful design especially for media-rich blogging. It is a responsive piece of design as mentioned earlier with several features and layouts to work across both mobile and desktop platforms. Amongst, the most interesting being the widgets in the footer, single column layout and font-based icons that make content look neat both on your mobile phone and home monitor.

Post locking:

For many people managing WordPress site together, post locking is a life saver. There will be no more accidents such as a great styling modified gets deleted because another person in the team has decided to fix a small typo. The great advantage with this new feature is that each author has their own autosave stream to store their writing on the server and lock their post for editing so that no other author can change the post stored on the server.

No more worries for the expired session:

Earlier once the WordPress tab was unattended for some time, the login session expired, which means, the next time when you click on a link you will be brought again to the login screen. However, with the latest version, the new feature called In-Line login is introduced to make life easier. You no longer have to go through the process of re-authenticating yourself if your session expires. You can login with the username and password and continue with your work.

No more the embedding plugins:

You can find the embedding at its best in WordPress 3.6. Add music or video files to your post easily without the need of any embedding plugins. All you need to do is paste the path to the mp3 files and it will turn into a fantastic player on your front page. Moreover, with the amazing media manager, you can even drag music or video files with the player option appearing on the right side of the page.
