Pageview or Page View

Page View

The Page View measure shows when a page as a whole is viewed. Each time a visitor arrives at a website it is tracked as a Page view. A visitor looks at about 2,5 pages on average. This term refers to the number of times a page (a file or combination of files) was viewed. It is often measured as a function of time. The Page view is a global volume. It measures how many times a visitor/human has viewed a specific page comprising images, files, texts, etc. When a visitor looks at a page, he/she sees many images, texts, graphics, and more and generate multiple hits. Technically, each visitor has at least one Page view.

To put it another way, no matter what page a web surfer lands on in a search, be it the home page or contact page. This page gets a Page view. As soon as a visitor points to another page that page gets a Page view. The Page views are calculated for each page of a single website.

What does it mean for the owner of a site?

To begin with, these measurements can be useful to see the page results. It’s important to know the Page views not only for the home page but for other pages as well. A visitor can simply bypass the home page and click directly to another one page. The Page views let to know where visitors are coming from. For example, they can come from an ad banner or from a link at another page. In light of this, the Page views are often used in online marketing and advertisement. It helps determine the expected revenue from the ads. In addition, the Page views can give an insight into the interests of the visitors. A site owner can do Page view analysis by time of day. It means it can record information about the browser, determine the time access (working hours or after) or operating system being used by a visitor.

The Page views are often called Impressions, as they used to display advertisement. However, Impressions are usually tracked by online advertisers. As a visitor lands on a page and an ad pops up, it receives one Impression. As a rule, the number of Impressions is often lower than the number of the Page views.
