Hand-drawing is one of the most popular styles adopted and incorporated into website designs. Deploying some sketchy elements is virtually the best way to convey and reflect individual tone. Such doodles, being used elsewhere as accenting notes, give a design a super unique, down to earth, and organic look. By now the hand-drawn elements are showing up on more and more web designs, so in this showcase we have collected 45 awesome website and template designs which follow a cool creative hand drawn style within their layout.
One of the most evident benefits of using hand drawn style is that it serves to impart information on a very emotional, more personal and informal tone. In such way users are able to grasp the idea behind the offerings and find their way around the site more easily. They feel a refreshing break from the colorful elements which are designed in curved and fuzzy lines to tweak the basic features of a site and give it a human touch. Hand drawn or sketched elements can make a web design inviting, and add even an overall fun factor to a design.
Additionally, hand drawn designs provide an excellent support for the content of the website which, being presented often in relatively clean and simple format, is being dominated by a hand drawn illustrated image or series of hand drawn-elements throughout the background. So, apart from employing all that for a design role, designers are using their hand drawn sketches and doodles to frame the content. One thing is for certain - the hand-drawn elements will make your site look more friendly, however it's very important to find the balance and be sure that they fit the theme and subject of your site. There is one important issue – sketchy design does not go well with a respectable corporate web project, where the design should look more professional, strict and sleek. Use a hand drawn style for a personal site, design related blogs, portfolios, and showcase sites, for tourism agencies, music bands, dressmakers, interior designers or for web stores selling something crafty and sketchy. Enough of that – right now surf through these creative web designs.

Very, very cool list. I just love hand-drawn websites, I don’t know why they took so long to catch on. I just re-designed http://www.drawinghowtodraw.com/ in a unique, hand-drawn layout which was almost completely made out of illustrated/hand-drawn, cut and ripped pieces of paper, that were then assembled, photographed, and then laid out as a web site … which then gives the site a 3-dimensional affect. I think your users would like to see it.
Thanks for your time.

These are a bit different, you need to have real artistic skills to produce designs like this, that’s for sure. I guess once you have done the artwork, the rest is normal use of graphics, but very well done.
Some fantastic looking sites here! Great post
there are a lot of enthusiast designs which are good for niche markets
Noypi ba ikaw???
Love the new waves of handcrafted designs..maybe expand a little more to the mature audience, this helps widen the market, not only to the young generations.
Thanks for the mention! Some nice examples.
So they are different (and very well done)… and only the young will like them – That’s the point, too narrow of a market. I’m well past the 6 decade mark and I finally found something that would be expressive enough for my taste.
6 decades?? for those to senile to remember and tooo young to count that high, I’m well over 60 years of age and operate a very consertive IT consulting firm. Ya, a bunch of “baby-boomers” that would think they are real sick.
waisting the time, yang people like to do this things and to see it on the walls but not on the screen of their computers…as i say, just waisting the time but cool, it is real art
wow! that is like saying painting a picture is a waste of time. I would predict that you are not a person who can draw…therefore bitter about it all.
I like the concept of hand drawn art for websites. However, this style of drawing limits greatly the target audience/user because it is too extreme.
I think theyre great. 🙂
Not in love with these, but many are well-done.
wow cool – we need a wamp of our aite
Very artsy and different – would work well for youth-target markets, if used carefully. I think most 40+ viewers would not respond positively. Most of the mature set would find this chaotic and irritating. If they’re not your market, then rock on! Some of these are amazing.
How prejudice of you – I’m 53 and I just love these designs and will within soon lauch my company’s website in this mannor! I think this style is an interesting point of view in this cyber age – back to the beginning with hand written elements to soften the net…just great

Sites like these are a fresh break from the standard. Agreed it can be done poorly and could be confusing to any age if not done correctly. I wish 90% of the web looked like hand drawn sites rather than what we have now. I blame Facebook and Google for web conformity. Great article! Sites like these inspire me to do more for the web and gives me hope that originality and creativity can be a solution for clients. If I see another generic WordPress template design again I’m going to puke! Thank you artists of the world and Template Monster blog 🙂
