Collaborate Humans & Machines for Smart Robotic Co-Worker of the Future

Over the past few years, we have learned to co-exist with automation and robotics. Our lifestyle has easily picked up on the idea of having computers that can talk to us and help us with planning our work and life. We have gotten used to transferring money online – without going to banks, paying for groceries at a scanner, and self-driving cars. It has become easy to find robots that interact safely and cooperate with human co-workers in an office environment.

The Arrival of Multiplicity

The newer, lighter model of the old robots has arrived in various factory floors to help and to work safely with human workers. However, there is a growing fear that the arrival of robots could render large sections of the human workforce redundant, but experts reveal that humanity will guarantee his own job(s). Most computer scientists agree on the arrival of Multiplicity, a combination of diverse groups of people and machines working together to solve problems.

Companies say that robots are appointed as aides to do the dull, dirty, and dangerous jobs that humans dislike or are ill-equipped to do, but the real power of automation that companies/businesses will experience is from humans plus machines. Machines are computed to learn from humans their cognitive behaviors. There is an ongoing robotic and technological innovation.

Robots as Tools

It has been suggested that if humans were to work in harmony with robots as their co-workers, it will be a good idea to use robots as tools. Human intervention will always be needed in the functioning of a robot, as the computing and creation of codes to make them perform a task will be completed by humans. Human beings will become "operators” which train the robot about what should be done and produced.

Baxter

Baxter is a safe, flexible, affordable alternative to the previously bulky and fixed automation. It is not yet fast and strong, but it is smart and adaptive and can learn movements through guidance from people. You simply need to grab its arms and guide them in the correct motions and sequence - there is no need for specific coding to make Baxter understand the procedure and anyone can do the show-and-tell.

Symbiotic Work Environment

Humans and robots require each other to train themselves for better work performance. We will require a combination of the strengths of humans with the robots to create a completely new and more effective working environment. The newer range of robots can sense humans via sensors installed in them and adjust its movements. Likewise, we can interact with them using simple gestures, which can be easily recognized.

Automation and robotics will be accessible to all in the near future, and more attention is being directed to developing cooperation between humans and robots. It’s a distant dream of having independent machines working on their own at hospitals or manufacturing plants and without any human intervention. Yet, with proper guidance and training from a human, a part-automatic robot could produce many more products on one production line. It is found in researches that productivity has increased by over 85 percent with robot-human teams, as compared to either human team or wholly robotic teams.

Implications of the Fourth Industrial Revolution Workforce

A driverless car may sound daunting, but robots do not drink alcohol, get tired, or misbehave with passengers. Additionally, the lack of blind spots would help plummet the road death rate and there would be a reduction in freight delivery timelines with greater efficiency on roads. The creation of low-cost collaborative robots has come as a blessing for small and medium-sized companies. They, in sync with humans, work to manufacture products in less time and ensure a better competition against rivals from low-cost markets. We may have to adapt our lives to work alongside increasingly sophisticated robots with the advent of more refined AI and we will have to think of newer ways for collaborative working relationships. We will also have to teach the robot intuitive learning to further automate the process, while we focus on monitoring and training them.

Humans and robots have found an interesting symbiotic dynamic to create better and more productive working relationships. These robots are created for working with us and to cooperate with people by working in the same environment. The aim of bringing the robots in is to be more productive.
