Jeff Miller: Although I joined the Affiliate Program in 2016, I've used TM almost exclusively long before that.
Jeff Miller: Choosing a website template is one of the most critical aspects of the design and a process that cannot be rushed. I work hard to match the feel of the template to the type of company I'm designing for. I envision the company's colors and images as I browse the templates, and I may review twenty or more templates for each project. Rarely have I needed to switch a template once the design process has begun. For larger, or more complex sites, I look for a template with more options such as Site Builders or a Multi-Purpose theme. Choosing a template that fits within the industry category certainly helps because they often include related icons and images.
Jeff Miller: I like to complete about four websites per month, but I typically have 10-20 in the funnel. My company is located in a smaller, blue-collar town, so pricing is always a significant consideration. Although my service fees are competitively priced (typically $1800 - $3000); I recently started offering a discounted product ($650) for those that cannot pay for a custom design. I was losing a good number of bids for smaller companies who cannot afford my custom design fees. So, I needed to offer a lower price option to encourage potential clients to take the do-it-yourself route.
Jeff Miller: I'm a Joomla guru, so I love that Template Monster has the largest collection of Joomla templates on the web. Other than the CMS option, I tend to use the more recent templates, but the number one deciding factor is whether or not it's a good fit for the project.
Jeff Miller: I do not use a SaaS solution. A big selling point for me is that my clients own their sites. They often expect to pay hefty monthly fees and the reaction I get from a single priced product has been positive. Of course, I offer monthly maintenance plans and some basic SEO options, but the choice is theirs.
Jeff Miller: Most of my business comes from organic search engine results. However, I've teamed up with a local ad agency that sells web design services. I do not white label my services, but by partnering with ad agencies, I effectively have a large sales team.
Jeff Miller: Once I decided to dedicate myself to Pueblo Web Design fully, my business grew. I quit my regular job and worked hard to "legitimize" my company. I secured an office on our town's main street, and I have a strong downtown presence.
I promote myself on my website's About Us page. I believe a big mistake that new web designers make is to hide behind their website. They try to make their company look larger than it is by using the term "we." "We do this..." and "We do that..." and not incorporate a personal approach - at least in the small town I live in. I prefer to write my site in the 1st person. "Consider me your personal web designer," "I will walk you the process every step of the way," "Meet Jeff," these are terms that help make a personal connection with my website viewers.
I also try to meet all my potential clients in my office so that they can see that I'm committed to my business and I'm here to stay. I work hard to promote my strengths based on the most common problems in our industry thus my slogan, "I promise perfect communication, ongoing support, and beautiful web designs."
Leon Millard: Feb 2015.
Leon Millard: We make use of the Template Monster API and allow our clients to pick a theme via our website.
Leon Millard: Our ‘theme’ offering which utilizes templates from TemplateMonster costs £395 for a brochure website or £695 for an e-commerce website. We complete approx. 3 to 4 theme sites per month. It’s currently not a large part of our business, but we are looking to push this.
Leon Millard: We use both WordPress templates and Opencart templates.
Leon Millard: We offer a full bespoke ‘agency’ solution as our primary product. These 100+ websites per month are made from scratch.
Leon Millard: We generate all our own business. This is via Google AdWords, organic, Bing, and referral.
Leon Millard: Be sensible when it comes to pricing. Everyone is always trying to undercut everyone, and no one wins…including the client!
Ricardo Santos: We started cooperation with TemplateMonster back in Joomla 1.5 days (maybe even 1.0) and soon became an affiliate since we had adopted Joomla and Prestashop open source technologies as our standard for websites and e-commerce (and we still use these two).
Ricardo Santos: Usually, we investigate our clients’ context and give them at least three different templates to choose from. So, context is our first criteria and mobile friendliness used to be the second although nowadays it’s standard for a template to be mobile friendly.
Ricardo Santos: We complete two to five projects each month, and the average paycheck starts at 300€ and could go for as much as 5000€ depending on how complicated the product is.
Ricardo Santos: We use Prestashop and Joomla templates mainly - although we have done some WordPress templates.
Ricardo Santos: We also make websites from scratch although we tend to buy a template anyway as a starting point as much of the work is done and we can concentrate on design and customization. We don’t use SaaS solutions.
Ricardo Santos: We get ours order client referrals and from Google organic traffic as we have the good fortune to rank high (first and second) on some critical Portuguese keywords like "website hosting" for example.
Ricardo Santos: I would suggest trying to get customers to pay a maintenance fee on their websites which could include web hosting and software updates - that way next year you would have an additional income which could be handy for those slow months.
Jonathan Patton: In 2010.
Jonathan Patton: Overall look and feel of the template design and if it’s laid out in a fashion that flows with the materials and info, we want to display to the website visitors.
Jonathan Patton: We usually complete 3-6 projects a month. Average website cost ranges from $3,500 - $5,000.
Jonathan Patton: We like Cherry 3, especially those that come with a PSD that we can customize.
Jonathan Patton: We make websites from scratch sometimes. We often do a custom design and then code the design on top of a slim/agreeable template.
Jonathan Patton: Google, current customers, referrals and through our various advertising/marketing efforts.
Jonathan Patton: Do your research and try out a few template companies. I think they will soon realize how awesome Template Monster templates are.
Alvin Lum: If not mistaken should be around Jan 2016.
Alvin Lum: There are no specific criteria. But we mostly choose regular HTML without CMS or WordPress.
Alvin Lum: Typically, around 4 to 8 projects, average paycheck it depends on projects.
Alvin Lum: Standard HTML without CMS or WordPress.
Alvin Lum: We do use our own web development team to customize web design.
Alvin Lum: We have a sales consultant and we tie up with an associate’s agency.
Alvin Lum: Improve your craft continually and get up to date with new technology.
